Healing from our heart to yours

Susan Parker grew up in Blue Springs and went through the Blue Springs school district. In 1992, on her way home from school, a minor car wreck left her with whiplash and a slight concussion. Deep tissue massage on her neck and shoulders helped her regain her range of motion.

That experience is why she went back to school to learn the art of massage therapy, to help others overcome the problems that come from injuries. She graduated from Wellspring School of Allied Health in May 2011, spent two years at Whole Life Health Chiropractic and Wellness Group, and then started Infinity Massage & Bodywork to continue the work she loves.

"My goal is to provide relief through therapeutic massage to people who suffer from pain on a day to day basis." Susan Parker

Before your first massage

The questions people ask most, answered the way Susan answers them.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

Undress to your comfort level. You will be draped with a sheet at all times. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, then covered again before moving on.

Can I talk during a massage?

Of course. Many people talk at first and go quiet as they relax. Always speak up if you are too warm or too cold, the room is too bright, or you want the pressure deeper or lighter.

Will it hurt?

That depends on the type of massage and how deep the strokes go. A light massage should not hurt. Tight muscles may have a "good hurt" feeling with deeper work, and you may be a little sore the next day. Tell Susan at any time if the pressure is more than you would like.

How often should I come in?

It depends on why you are coming. For an injury or chronic tightness, weekly sessions for a while can build on each other. For everyday stress, once a month is about the norm.

When should I not get a massage?

Please reschedule or call first if you have:

  • A fever
  • Any infectious disease or systemic infection
  • A severe cold
  • A fracture, bleeding, burn or other acute injury
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • A blood clot
  • Pregnancy-induced diabetes, toxemia, preeclampsia or eclampsia
  • High blood pressure not controlled with medication
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Open skin lesions or sores (she may work around them if localized)

Not sure whether something minor counts? Call before your appointment.

What does a license or certification mean?

In Missouri a massage therapist needs 500 hours of training at an accredited or accepted school and must pass a written national certification test. Susan is nationally certified and licensed by the state and the City of Blue Springs.
